New Mini Rod in Finland

From Askola, in Finland,  the Finnish Sniper Pulling Team around Jarmo Leikkola are building a new 950kg / 2095lbs. Mini Rod Tractor with an Transmash V12 tank engine at the moment. After the sell of the old Ford V8 turbocharged Mini Mod called ,,Another Grave Digger´´ to Germany, the finnish Team decided to built a completely new Tractor with an engine, who was never used on a Mini Modified vehicle, because of the weight in the past. Jarmo and his crew started with the new project in the winter of 2015 / 2016 in their workshop in Askola. One was sure before the building progress started, because of the heavy weight of the Russian V12 engine, everything must built so light as possible. The new Mini Rod receives a homemade Docol R8 tube frame with a homemade 25CrMo4 Rollcage, a homemade steering, homemade fenders and a Iveco / Vreeman Special Parts (VSP) rearend.
The Team will make the homemade fenders from carbon fiber. The new rearend will have a stock Iveco ring and pinion gear, a homemade aluminium center section with a Iveco diff, homemade axle tubes, shorted Iveco half shafts and homemade brake discs with Brembo calipers. The rear axle housing was built by Bennie Vreeman of Vreeman Special Parts in Neede, the Netherlands. Because of the weight, the new Mini Mod will have no transmission, only a new built homemade light weight driveshaft from the clutch to the center section of the rear axle. The Tractor receives a new 11´´ inch aluminium centrifugal clutch with 3 discs, a aluminium fly wheel and a Trick Titanium clutch bell housing. The new centrifugal clutch will built by Eagle Clutches (Christer Örn) from Kunimek in Finland.
Jarmo purchased by the Dirty Herrie Pulling Team in the Netherlands a set of used aluminium rims with old Firestone Mini Mod tires for the new vehicle.
The new Finnish Sniper will have a Transmash V12 engine with 38.88l / 2373cui. capacity on methanol fuel. The Russian Transmash engine comes out of an T54 tank and runs normally on diesel fuel. The weight of the original engine is almost 1000kg. The Team took a lots of weight off the V12 engine. Almost every original part was machined to save weight. The power plant will have a machined stock Transmash block with lighter stock sleeves, a lighter stock crankshaft, original Transmash rods with original modified aluminium pistons, revised and lighter made Transmash cylinder heads with original camshafts, new better valves and stronger valve springs, homemade carbon fiber valve covers, 12 homemade carbon fiber intake pipes (1 each cylinder with 1 butterfly), a Veldhuizen Special Products methanol fuel system, a fuel canister as a fuel tank, a homemade carbon fiber oil pan, a CDI ignition with 500 mj spark energy and a MS3 data logger. After some modifications, the MS3 data logger can not only measure some data, the system also can control the ignition. The oil pump on the completely overhauled engine also isn´t original anymore. The oil pump will replace by a much lighter RR Meteor oil pump. The old original fuel nozzles in the cylinder heads will remote and replaced by spark plugs, because the engine running on methanol now. The calculations for the completely fuel system were made by Willem Veldhuizen of Veldhuizen Special Products from Loosdrecht, in the Netherlands.
The maiden voyage of the new Finnish Sniper is planned for the end of the 2018 Pulling season in Finland.

The Finnish Sniper Pulling Team would also like to give a big thanks to their sponsors Turkhaudan Monitoimi and Mil - Safarit for the support !
