Q & A with Barend Huijbregts

Barend Huijbregts, 44 years old from Hoeven, in the Netherlands. He is the owner and driver of the IH 1066 Component Pro Stock Tractor called ,,Rocky´´. Barend won in 2018 the Dutch Championship, the Euro Cup and finshed in runner up position at the European Championship. He also compete with his Tractor at the Indoor Pulls in Gordyville, Illinois and at the NFMS Pull in Louisville, Kentucky with success this year.

pullingworld.com: What are you doing in your normal life?
Barend Huijbregts: Owner of HMT powerparts a company specialized in high performance pulling parts. For example:  turbochargers, upgrading cylinder heads.

pullingworld.com: What do you like to do in your free time, except Tractor Pulling?
Barend Huijbregts: Holiday with the family, especially camping and going on the water with my boat and/or jetski.

pullingworld.com: What do you like about Tractor Pulling?
Barend Huijbregts: The challenge to make the combination between diesel horsepower, tyre grip and balance work perfectly and getting everything out of the Rocky Pro Stock Tractor.

pullingworld.com: What was your first Tractor Pulling event?
Barend Huijbregts: Somewhere in the early 80s.

pullingworld.com: What is your favourite Event / Pulling track?
Barend Huijbregts: Our “home” pull Made’s Powerweekend (NL).

pullingworld.com: When and where do you have driven a Pulling Tractor for the first time?
Barend Huijbregts: Rijsbergen (NL) 1991 back then a Modified diesel with a DAF 1160 (a former ‘T Smidje from Kees van de Riet)

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest success?
Barend Huijbregts: All the first big competition wins in the Dutch Grand National, Euro Cup and the EC 2012 in F├╝chtorf (D). And of course the American winter tour last winter was a great experience.

pullingworld.com: Which Pulling classes do you like too?
Barend Huijbregts: Pulling in general, but Diesel and Hood classes are my favorites.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest disappointment?
Barend Huijbregts: Most recently the timing gear problems in Gordyville (USA) come to my mind, not being able to bring one good pull at that show was for sure a big disappointment

pullingworld.com: Which things must be changed in the future of the Tractor Pulling sport?
Barend Huijbregts: Make sure to keep the playing field as leveled as possible

pullingworld.com: What are your plans for the future in Tractor Pulling?
Barend Huijbregts: Building a brand new Rocky with some nice developments this winter.

pullingworld.com: What was for you the most important moment in the sport?
Barend Huijbregts: First pull with the Rocky Pro Stock with own developed aluminium rods, when everybody said it wasn't possible to run those in a Pro Stock

pullingworld.com: What was your favourite
Pulling Tractor project in the workshop during a winter?
Barend Huijbregts: For now probably the current one building a new Rocky, all the rest is history
