Q & A with Remi Vreeman

Remi Vreeman, 25 years old from Neede in the Netherlands. Remi is the son of Bennie Vreeman (owner of Vreeman Special Products) and he is one of the drivers of the BAE V8 Hemi powered Mini Rod called ,,Vampire´´.

pullingworld.com: What are you doing in your normal life?
Remi Vreeman: I work as a product specialist at a company called “Kramp”. I’m responsible for technical support and sales of transmission components for the agricultural market in the Netherlands.

pullingworld.com: What do you like to do in your free time, except Tractor Pulling?
Remi Vreeman: In my spare time I like to ride Motorcycle (on the nice days). I also go to the gym on a regular base so my weeks are pretty much stuffed besides working. spending time with friends is also important to me. Tractor Pulling is a great sport, but very time consuming, especially in the season. Sometimes this means offering some social time, but I try to keep a good balance.

pullingworld.com: What do you like on Tractor Pulling?
Remi Vreeman: I like the fact that there are so many different teams, each with their own ideas. This makes for very different creative solutions for all sorts of technical difficulties. It’s inspiring to see how everyone is competitive on the track, but ready to help each other whenever needed. I guess we all have the same mindset.

pullingworld.com: What was your first Tractor Pulling event?
Remi Vreeman: I believe this was Putten (NL) 1994. This was even before we had our first tractor. I don’t remember much of it. We still have a picture at home though, from me sitting in the old Gompie, yes the one with the copper fuel tank.

pullingworld.com: What is your favourite Event / Pulling track?
Remi Vreeman: Hard to choose one favorite, there are a lot of great events, and improving every year. If I have to choose one, it would be Eext (NL). Maybe not the biggest event or the best track, but great atmosphere.

pullingworld.com: When and where do you have driven a Pulling Tractor for the first time?
Remi Vreeman: That was in Montfoort (NL) 2012. This was on the previous Vampire with the V12 Griffon engine. I have to admit, it was a very impressive engine to have in front of you. Because it was the first time, my skills were not up to the task with so many things to look after. But apart from that, an experience to never forget.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest success?
Remi Vreeman: The double victory of 2016. Becoming Mini-Unlimited Champion in a very competitive class is fantastic. Besides that, we are also awarded with the Puller of the year trophy, for me that was quite special.

pullingworld.com: Which Pulling classes do you like too?
Remi Vreeman: Modifieds and Unlimited, because you can really feel the power when you’re watching from the side of the track.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest disappointment?
Remi Vreeman: That would be Lochem this year. This is pretty much our “home” event, with a lot of local fans. We had high expectations, but sadly due to bad track preparations we missed the finals. We still ended up fifth, but really aimed for a podium finish here.

pullingworld.com: Which things must be change in the future of the Tractor Pulling sport?
Remi Vreeman: Length of the track should be reduced back to 100 meters to save the engines. Apart from that I think we are on the right track. Events are getting bigger and larger crowds are attracted.

pullingworld.com: What's your plans for the future in Tractor Pulling?
Remi Vreeman: We will keep innovating in our class. Always looking for new ways to improve, and stay ahead of the competition. Be aware…!

pullingworld.com: What was for you the most important moment in the sport?
Remi Vreeman: For me this was the first successful pull of the current Vampire. This was Lochem (NL) 2013 where we became 3rd. this was a great result, and even more special because this time Mark and I had a large share in the design and fabrication of this Tractor. This really made it feel like a personal success.

pullingworld.com: What was your favourite Pulling Tractor project in the workshop during a winter?
Remi Vreeman: Haha, well I think working on the old V12 Vampire last winter after we sold it to our friends from Pulling Team Bad Company. The Tractor was back for winter maintenance and some other modifications. It was great to work on this Tractor again, and sure brought back some good memories. The first start after a “winter sleep” is always something special with that engine.

pullingworld.com: Something you want to say?
Remi Vreeman: I want to say thank you for asking me to do this interview. It’s great to see that the new generation in our sport is given a chance to share their enthusiasm.

pullingworld.com: Thank you for your time and good luck!
