Q & A with Kees Vreeman

Kees Vreeman, 51 years old from Neede in the Netherlands. Kees is the younger brother of Bennie Vreeman (owner of Vreeman Special Products) and the part time driver of the V8 Hemi powered Mini Rod Tractor called ,,Vampire´´.

pullingworld.com: What are you doing in your normal life?
Kees Vreeman: I'm a former bike painter and designer. I've been designing and painting motorbikes, sidecars ,trikes , helmets, tractorpullers etc.. Unfortunately excessive exposure to toxic solvents over the years caused CTE which forced me to quit.

pullingworld.com: What do you like to do in your free time, except Tractor Pulling?
Kees Vreeman: I like motorcycle riding, do some maintenance and all that comes with it. And i try to be in the open air as much as possible.

pullingworld.com: What do you like on Tractor Pulling?
Kees Vreeman: First off all the power and the sound. What would it be without?

pullingworld.com: What was your first Tractor Pulling event?
Kees Vreeman: Must be somewhere around 1979, I think it was in Harreveld (NL), a small village nearby my hometown.

pullingworld.com: What is your favourite Event / Pulling track?
Kees Vreeman: Lochem (NL) is my favourite Pull.

pullingworld.com: When and where do you have driven a Pulling Tractor for the first time?
Kees Vreeman: I had my maiden run in Meerkerk 1995 with the Alvis 14 cylinder Radial powered Mini Mod.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest success?
Kees Vreeman: I think the biggest achivement was succeeding the build of the Vampire with the Rolls Royce Griffon within the weight limiteds and make it perform as well. In competition become National Champion 2016 and Puller of the year.

pullingworld.com: Which Pulling classes do you like too?
Kees Vreeman: Modifieds.

pullingworld.com: What was your biggest disappointment?
Kees Vreeman: In the sport there were no real big disappointments. The first time ever we passed the weight bridge, our mini was 100kg too heavy, that was a little shock, we thought we build it almost as light as possible. Half a year later, after a complete rebuild, showed we were wrong. There's always some weight to loose.

pullingworld.com: Which things must be change in the future of the Tractor Pulling sport?
Kees Vreeman: Most important is to keep it safe for everyone. I prefer to keep the system with 4, maybe 5 finalist after the qualify pull as it is now, but  max.100 m for a full pull and 90 mtr for qualifying instead of 110-100 m. Imo in our class a heavier sled setting will lead to a closer competition especially because the V12 Teams will perform better within a shorter track and heavier sled setting.

pullingworld.com: What's your plans for the future in Tractor Pulling?
Kees Vreeman: First we'll try to have fun and stay on top off our class  and be involved in the competition as long as possible. We hope to keep on developing parts to make the hardware more reliable and performe better. As long as the mini class is a real ''unlimited class'' except weight and dimensions anything can happen.

pullingworld.com: What was for you the most important moment in the sport?
Kees Vreeman: Make it to the final at the last event in Alphen this year. Qualifying was a real big thing

pullingworld.com: What was your favourite Pulling Tractor project in the workshop during a winter?
Kees Vreeman: Design and paint the  latest edition of the Inter-Techno Lambada a couple of years ago, later on our own puller and all different helmets during the years.

pullingworld.com: Something you want to say?
Kees Vreeman: In all sports and competition there's a top and a bottom off the list. Don't try to take away the top off a class with all sorts off limitations or regulations, it will not not lead to any improvement from the bottom. At the end off the day, the one that puts in the most efforts  got the best change to win. If you want a better result, try to make it perform better anyway.

pullingworld.com: Thank you for your time and good luck!

Workshop news Let´s Try Pulling Team

From Dronten in the Netherlands, the Let's Try Pulling Team are currently working on their V8 Hemi powered 950kg Mini Modified Tractor called ,,Let's Try". The Mini Rod get some very important changes at the moment. The Tractor receives new lighter carbon fiber fenders and some changes on the rear axle to loose weight.
The BAE V8 Hemi engine also get some changes and improvements. The power plant gets the latest Version of the SSI 18-71 blower from the USA, new better Reid rocker arms for the cylinderheads and new modified aluminium pistons. The pistons were modified on the CNC mill by Post & Dros in Dronten. The pistons were modified to insure that the valves do not hit the pistons. Because they halfed the headgasket in thickness to make more compression.
The Dutch Team hopes to get more horsepower out of the engine with all those modifications.
Last but not least, the Dutch Team have with the company called ,,Fertilab B.V.´´ from Dronten, in the Netherlands a new main sponsor on the Tractor for this season. Fertilab B.V. approves and controls agricultural products and food. The second new sponsor is ,,Oliehandel.nl´´. The Let´s Try Team receives all thier lubricants (engine oil, rear axle oil etc.) from Oliehandel.nl for their Mini Rod.
The Let's Try Pulling will compete in the Dutch Grand National Championship and in the Euro Cup this year.
The first start with the Mini Rod after those changes is planned for the 13th of May 2017 in Stroe, the Netherlands.
